Service Hours
Service is an important part of a Driscoll student’s life. All students are required to complete 48 hours of service as a graduation requirement. This breaks down to 12 hours of service per year. Students are given opportunities to complete service through a variety of school sponsored projects. Service hours are granted by working at our Open House nights, Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, Misericordia Candy Days, ALS Tag Days, Ronald MacDonald Dinner Nights, Sleep Out Saturday, helping out teachers in their classrooms, etc. Students also earn service hours by working as volunteers at hospitals, senior citizen centers, pet shelters, walk-a-thons, bowl-a-thons, coaching younger children, scouting projects, etc.
As you can see the possibilities for service are endless. The hours are logged through the Call to Serve sheet that the student must complete and turn in to Mrs. Parker. The hours then go into a computer program and at report card time, the hours are exported so they appear on the report cards. This makes it easier for both parents and students to track their hours.
We are very proud of our service program which has been in place for 14 years now. Most of our students go way beyond the required 48 hours. We are very proud of the fact that for several years we have had Driscoll seniors who have made the Daily Herald Leadership Team which has as its basis service hours.
If you have any questions pertaining to service, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Parker by phone at (630) 543-6310 or by e-mail and she will be glad to answer them for you.
